SUMOBABY | Meet The Business

Tomek is the proud owner of SUMOBABY, we met up to get Tomeks headshots up to date and to give him professional images for his own website and socials to look top notch! We did nothing but talk, how we got some still photos I have no idea, but we had an awesome time and Tomek really opened up and taught me a lot about him and his business.

MEET TOMEK

I’ve 100% taken this off of the Sumobaby website, but who to explain better than Tomek himself.

“We were digital nomads before the Great Lockdown changed the way many people worked. We discovered back in 2010 that we could provide great services to individuals and businesses without being tied to one locality — or even one country.

Tomek, a second-generation Pole, spearheads our collective. He is now proudly based in Grantham, the town that educated Isaac Newton and the birthplace of the UK’s first female police officer, Edith Smith.”

Tomek and I have a lot in common, we want to help people get the most out of their digital media and profile. We share common goals in our businesses and look to work together more in the future giving our clients the best digital makeover they’ve ever had.

WHAT WE DID AND WHY WE DID IT

Initially, Tomek wanted some “lifestyle” headshots but with the winter weather being super unpredictable we took to the studio to get some clean and fresh studio headshots. Tomek hasn’t had a headshot in a couple of years, but was a natural in front of the camera. Once we got comfortable we set to work with a white background. Starting with a white background really gives me an idea of how the “corporate” headshot suits the person I’m photographing, it gives me idea’s of where to go next and what else we can do.

Tomek was much more at ease when we were having sillier conversations that made him laugh, but we took some breaks to get a nice smile. Like most people, Tomek found it hard to keep smiling and smiling so we did a few angles of him looking over the camera/passed the camera talking to me and me catching the more natural smiles too.

From there, we moved around the studio getting a more natural/lifestyle style headshot and we went to the black washed wall to end the session. We were there for 2 hours max and I have delivered around 15 - 20 photographs.

WHY DELIVER SO MANY PHOTOGRAPHS?

A lot of time can be wasted with me delivering proof albums for you to come back and pick them, for me to then edit the selected and then deliver the album and honestly, in all that time, I could have edited all of them… So I do. The editing process is pretty straight forward with the experience I have and it gives you a wider choice of photos to have and use.

I also like to give you what we take because other than going in my portfolio; I’m not doing anything else with the rest, they’ll just get archived. And once I’ve edited one in a set of the same background and lighting, I just have to copy the edit over to the next photo and tweak. It doesn’t take me HOURS AND HOURS to do and I’m not going to pretend it does.

I’m pretty tech savvy and my photography experience means I can edit images cleanly and quickly. My photography journey began with access to photoshop and then lightroom so I’ve been doing this for years now. Most photographers offer 1 or 2 photos, and that might be all you really need. But it doesn’t hurt to give you a choice and a wider selection.

There are so many uses to headshot photos like;

  • Reintroduction posts on your socials - this is great if you’re an avid networker and meeting people all the time, it means you can use new images every time and look fresh out the box in every post you do

  • Website pages - why not use different headshots on different pages? I do, and it helps to have that flexibility.

  • General engagement - you gain engagement by showing your face , but you can also use the multiple shots for voting on your new profile picture and giving your audience a bit of a say in how you look.

  • Different profile images - I find that different social mediums require a slightly different stance and view; linked in is more professional, facebook more casual, instagram more relaxed and photo based… so use that to your advantage and have photographs that fit every medium.
